Zyuganov refused to run for President of Russia

Communist party leader Gennady Zyuganov asked the party not to nominate him for the elections of the President of Russia 2018. About it reports «Russian service of the BBC» with reference to party members.

Instead of Zyuganov of the CPRF Central Committee «after two days of arguing,» recommended to the plenary session of the party to nominate a candidate of Director of the Moscow Lenin state farm Pavel Grudinina.

The final decision will be made at the Congress of Communists of 23 December, by secret ballot.

According to the publication, the refusal of the leader of the Communist party to go to the polls could be caused by his fear to give way to second place in the elections to the head of LDPR Vladimir Zhirinovsky.

Also the reason for the refusal may be reluctance Zyuganov to participate in a campaign TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak, whom he considers a worthy opponent, told an anonymous source.

Grudinin has more than 20 years headed the Lenin state farm, one of the most famous producers of strawberries in Russia. He was elected three Deputy Mosobldumy, but in Federal election campaigns was not involved. In September of 2017 became the head of a Prominent suburban city Council on the results of the municipal elections.

Grudinin is not a member of the Communist party, but calls himself a supporter of the Communist party. Until 2010, it was the «United Russia».

Presidential elections in Russia will be held on 18 March 2018. At the moment about the plans of the extension, said Sobchak, Zhirinovsky, the founder of the party «Yabloko» Grigory Yavlinsky, the businessman Sergey Polonsky, journalist Catherine Gordon, the Russian blogger Nigerian-born Samson Sholademi, business Ombudsman Boris Titov and others.

Acting President Vladimir Putin announced his intention to run on December 6. He will go to elections as the independent candidate.
