Zenit sacked coach Lucescu

The Board of Directors of football club «Zenit» from St. Petersburg has terminated the agreement with the 71-year-old Romanian specialist Mircea Lucescu, the official website of the club.

Zenit thanked Lucescu and his coaching staff for his work and wished him luck in his future career.

In the season 2016/2017 years, the team from St. Petersburg took the third place in the Russian Premier League after failing to break into the Champions League.

The name of the new head coach has not been named.

Lucescu headed «Zenith» on may 24, 2016, concluding a two-year contract with an option to extend for another year.

Prior to that, the Romanian coach for 12 years, coached Shakhtar Donetsk, eight times winning the title of Champions of Ukraine.

Lucescu has explained that he left the Donetsk club because of the situation in Ukraine and lowering the level of the championship.
