Yatsenyuk: the discussion about the lifting of sanctions with Russia unfounded, and the annexation of Crimea should remain on the global agenda

Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed that any discussion about the likelihood of lifting the sanctions against Russia have no grounds.

As the correspondent of the UNIAN reports, he declared it during joint statements to the media with Minister of foreign Affairs of Canada stéphane Dion, who is in Ukraine with the first working visit after the appointment of the new government of Canada.

To hold elections in the Donbass without the diversion of arms of the Russian Federation is impossible – the Minister of foreign Affairs of Canada

«Russia now started a huge game with the intention that with the Russian sanctions were lifted. And Russia’s goal is to convince the Western world of the necessity of lifting the sanctions. And Russia’s goal is in fact to start the game, who is to blame for the failure of «Minsk» (Minsk agreements – ed.)», — said Yatsenyuk.

According to him, Ukraine has consistently and accurately performed, and performs its part of the Minsk agreements.

«Russia has never made anything. That is why Russia is obliged to cease fire, withdraw troops, withdraw all the artillery and equipment, to give the OSCE access to all areas and territories in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions and withdraw its troops from the end that Ukraine has fully restored the control over the Ukrainian-Russian border», — said the Prime Minister.

Yatsenyuk noted that any discussion about the likelihood of the lifting of the sanctions against Russia do not have at this stage no reason.

«That’s why I think that any discussion whether in the EU, or among our Western partners about the possibility of lifting the sanctions do not have at this stage no reason,» stressed the head of government.

Yatsenyuk stressed that the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia and the sanctions against the Russian Federation should not be excluded from the global agenda.

«The illegal annexation of Crimea and related sanctions against Russia in any case should not be excluded from the global agenda», — said Yatsenyuk.

According to him, Ukraine counts on the support of Canada in this matter.

Recall, the EU extended economic sanctions for six months, until 31 July, and a clearly stated relation to the full implementation of the Minsk agreements.

On January 27 the Chairman of the unit for Eastern partnership of the Foreign service of the European Union Dirk Schuebel stated that the European Union will raise the issue of lifting the sanctions for Russia until full compliance with the Minsk agreements.

To hold elections in the Donbass without the diversion of arms of the Russian Federation is impossible – the Minister of foreign Affairs of Canada

Without the withdrawal of Russian weapons from the Donbass elections going on uncontrollable Kiev territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions it is impossible, said Minister of foreign Affairs of Canada Stefan Dion.

«For us, the implementation of the Minsk agreements mean a real ceasefire. If a genuine ceasefire, there can be no question of compliance with Minsk, which also means that the forces must be withdrawn. If they are not reserved, it is very difficult to say how the elections can happen,» Dion said at a joint meeting with Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk press briefing on Monday in Kyiv.

The Minister added that Canada deems inadmissible «a Russian invasion in the Ukraine» and not «accept the things that happened with the Crimea».

«The sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine must be respected,» said Dion.
