The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko says that he never promised to sell «channel 5».

About this Poroshenko said in an interview with Deutsche Welle.

To a journalist’s question, «but you promised to be different from the oligarchs, who have their own media,» Poroshenko replied that he was and is so different: «I am different. If you see «channel 5″, he is more critical of the authorities and is one of the most free. There are journalists with a reputation,» — said Poroshenko.

Answering the question «why do you channel? Who else from the European presidents have their own TV channel…», the Ukrainian head of state said that he is the guarantor of press freedom.

«I am the guarantor of press freedom and standards of work of journalists «channel 5″ is not called criticism. The relationship between me and the journalists completely transparent», — said Poroshenko.

He also noted that Ukrainian is the only President to have transferred its assets to the management of an independent trust Fund, and it is a very «European».

Recall that during the presidential campaign Poroshenko promised to sell Roshen confectionery factory in case of victory on elections of the President of Ukraine, «channel 5» he refused to sell. «First, because channel 5 never sold and will not be sold. And secondly, I believe that the role that the free press played during the Orange revolution and during our revolution on the Maidan in the 14th year (2014. — Ed.) extremely important», — said Poroshenko.
