«Voice of Ukraine» published the law on the High Council of justice

The official newspaper of the Verkhovna Rada «Voice of Ukraine» on Wednesday, January 4, published the law on the High Council of justice (CSJ), which will enter into force on 5 January. The high Council of justice is created by the reorganization of the High Council of justice.

VSP has the authority to dismiss judges, to pay to the President the submission of their appointment, make the decision on violation by a judge or Prosecutor of requirements concerning the incompatibility, bring them to disciplinary responsibility. Also VSP may deny immunity of judges suspected of criminal offences.

In addition, the Council will address issues of transfer of judges, their mission as well as to approve their amount in the courts. Also GSP will be able to appoint and dismiss the Chairman of the State judicial administration and his deputies, the heads of the service of judicial protection.

The high Council of justice is composed of 21 members, of which 10 are elected by the Congress of judges, two appointed by the President, Parliament, the Congress of advocates, Ukrainian conference of prosecutors and the Congress of representatives of higher legal educational establishments and scientific institutions.

Council decisions can only be appealed to the Supreme Court. Chairman of the Supreme Court is part of VSP’s position.

We will remind, the Parliament adopted the law on the High Council of justice of 21 December 2016, and January 3, President Petro Poroshenko signed it.
