The Syrian Center for policy studies publishes a report on the impact of five years of conflict on the situation in Syria. According to these data, during the confrontation were killed 470 thousand Syrians, 1.9 million were injured.
Materials of report prepared by the center, published on February 11, the British newspaper The Guardian, reports NEWSru.co.il. Experts estimate the effect of military action on the Syrian society as catastrophic, and economic damage, according to them, over 255 billion dollars.
Of all the victims of 400 thousand people have been killed as a direct result of hostilities. Another 70 thousand Syrians have become victims of war-caused hardship – hunger, disease, cold, lack of access to drinking water. All were killed or wounded 11.5% of the pre-war population of Syria.
Named the number is almost double, which led a year and a half ago by the UN. After that, the organization has stopped counting the victims.
«We are confident in our method of research, and hence in the statistics. The UN did not have access to information and therefore their information is underestimated,» said the report author Rabi Nasser. He noted that in recent years mortality has increased significantly.
According to the center, the average life expectancy of Syrians over the past five years has decreased from 70 to 55. The Syrian economy has become a «black hole» that absorbs all internal and external resources, reports Mignews.com.
