USA in OSCE outraged by the repression against the Crimean Tatars

The United States is concerned by the significant deterioration of the state of Affairs in the field of human rights in Russia-annexed Crimea, in particular, the increase in the number of Crimean Tatars who were being persecuted for refusing to support the occupiers. «Last week the total number of the Crimean Tatars, who were subjected to persecution and baseless accusations of «extremism» or «terrorism», has risen to 21st after the new police raids on Tatar houses that took place on 17 November,» he said.

Bayer also stressed that Russia has cut off access to state institutions as well as education and health care to those Ukrainians who refused to take Russian citizenship.

«At least 30 thousand inhabitants of the Crimea and, probably even more have moved to other regions of Ukraine, fearing reprisals for their work, politicians or journalists, or for their Pro-Ukrainian views,» he said.
