USA for the first time in 60 years, become a net exporter of natural gas

USA for the first time since 1957, got rid of the trade imbalance for the year due to the growth of exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and pipeline gas supplies to Mexico. This was reported by an analyst at the Washington energy information Administration Victoria Zaretsky in comments to Bloomberg.

Net gas exports from the U.S. in 2017 amounted to approximately 11 million m3 per day. In 2016, the US per day and imported an average of 50 million m3 of gas.

Zakrevsky said that the growing number of LNG tankers and a significant projected increase in the supply of gas by pipeline to Mexico should ensure the positive development trend in the future.

Now in the US for export only works LNG terminal Sabine Pass in Louisiana. In 2018 will have two more LNG terminal.

«Never before has the global LNG market has had such significant volumes of gas, such as those that will be available in the next three years, mainly from the United States that will lead to fundamental changes in the way LNG is traded and sold in the world,» said Zaretsky.

In 2016, the US managed to become net exporters of gas in November, when exports for the month exceeded imports approximately 11 million m3 per day.

Russian Gazprom supplies 40% of the total volumes of gas consumed by Europe. The first tanker with LNG to the us went to the EU in 2016. In June 2017 tanker with liquefied gas from the USA for the first time in history arrived in Poland.

Analysts at The Wall Street Journal noted that the supply of American liquefied natural gas to Europe can lead to the beginning of a price war on the continent, which will drop the price for consumers.
