A group of U.S. senators said on Tuesday 10 January on the introduction of a bill, «an Act of counter fighting Russia — 2017», which toughens sanctions against the Russian Federation and reinforces existing restrictions on the legislative level.

«It’s a detailed bill that would impose even greater sanctions against Russia for its activities against U.S. interests,» commented Senator Ben Cardin, the main initiator of the draft law.

In addition, the bill establishes sanctions of the administration of Barack Obama against Russia, imposed in response to RF interference in the elections and its attempted annexation of Ukrainian Crimea in 2014.
