UNESCO made Neapolitan pizza in the list of intangible heritage

UNESCO recognized the technique of making Neapolitan pizza the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. This was reported on the website of the organization.

«The Neapolitan art of pizza maker – cooking practice, which consists of four different phases related to the preparation of the dough and its baking in the wood oven,» – said in the message.

According to members of the intergovernmental Committee of UNESCO, the art of the pizzaiolo is transmitted from generation to generation in the South of Italy in Naples. Now there are about 3000 pizzaiolo.

2 million Italians have signed a petition demanding to recognize Neapolitan pizza UNESCO world heritage site.

It is noted that the status of «world heritage» will help to protect the pizza from «Ukrainian flour and mozzarella from the Lithuanian cheese».

During the meeting of the UNESCO intergovernmental Committee, which met in Seoul on 4 December, the heritage was also listed as Portuguese technique of making clay figurines Estremoz, German organ craftsmanship, the Indian Kumbh Mela festival, the Indonesian technique of making wooden sailing boats pinisi, playing on the Irish bagpipes, the Iranian horse game chovgan.

Intangible cultural heritage includes traditions, holidays, knowledge, and performing arts that are passed down from generation to generation.
