Under the control of ISIS in Iraq was only one town of Hawija

At the moment, the militants are in control of only one district of Iraq – the city Hawija in Kirkuk province, according to Yahoo News, citing AFP.

Hawija is located 300 km from the capital Baghdad. The city is under the control of ISIS since June 2014, when the terrorist group emerged in Iraq and announced the establishment of a Caliphate. Since then, the city served as the stronghold of the terrorists «Islamic state» in the province of Kirkuk.

In addition, Hawija, under the control of ISIS, there remain a number of areas in the desert along the border with Syria.

31 August, Prime Minister of Iraq, Haider al-Abadi declared victory over ISIS militants in the town of tal afar and the entire province of Nineveh.

In the district of tall afar at the beginning of the operation there were between 1400 to 1600 ISIL militants.

The main stronghold of the Islamic state in Iraq has been Mosul, the Islamists seized the city in 2014. On 10 July, military of Iraq have announced the liberation of Mosul from ISIS.

On 20 August, the Iraqi army launched an offensive on the ISIL militants held the town of tall afar, located about 50 km West of Mosul. The terrorists controlled the city in 2014.
