Ukrainians urged to refrain from trips to Libya

The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine urges citizens to refrain from trips to Libya, given the precarious security situation in the country. This is stated on the page of the Department of consular service of the foreign Ministry in Facebook.

«Once again emphasize the need to refrain from travelling to Libya, given the serious risk and the failure of Libyan authorities to guarantee security and the rule of law throughout the country. Also keep in mind the limited capacity of consular protection in emergency situations on the territory of Libya, as the Ukrainian diplomatic mission is stationed in Tunisia», — stated in the message.

Warning, the MFA is intended primarily for Ukrainian medical workers who are employed in Libyan hospitals. The foreign Ministry warned that in most cases the contracts that are concluded with Ukrainian doctors, are radically different from the real conditions of work, especially in matters of personal security, remuneration and return to Ukraine.

One of the recent cases was the arrest and imprisonment of the Ukrainian medical worker of the local «law enforcement» on trumped-up charges. In fact, the head of the Libyan medical institutions, which worked our compatriot, bowed his way to the conclusion of a new contract in a situation when the Ukrainians insisted on holding him the final settlement and return Home. Only thanks to the timely intervention of the Embassy of Ukraine in Tunisia, the Ukrainian doctor was released from custody.

Recall that after the civil war and the overthrow in 2011 of Muammar Gaddafi in Libya remains tense. The country was fragmented, there are a large number of armed groups, organized on a territorial or tribal basis, between which occasional armed clashes.
