Countries «Big seven» together with one of the main creditors of Ukraine European Bank for reconstruction and development is ready to provide Ukraine with about 85 million euros for implementation of projects on liquidation of consequences of Chernobyl accident, including projects for the Shelter, as well as for the completion of the storage of spent nuclear fuel, «dry type».
On Monday 25 April, during a briefing in Kiev, said the EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti and the Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan in Ukraine Shigeki Sumi.
«I am pleased to report that the EBRD Board of Directors decided to allocate an additional 40 million euros for Chernobyl projects» — said Chakrabarti.
He added that the Fund agreement will be signed with the government of Ukraine tomorrow, on April 26. While Chakrabarti stressed that the overall contribution to the EBRD Chernobyl projects made for the whole period of cooperation, will be about 750 million euros.
In turn, the Ambassador of Japan presidency at the moment of the «Big seven» — said: «We also want to announce that donors «seven» is ready to allocate 45 million euros. Another 2.5 million euros, we are ready to attract from other donors.»
Present at the briefing, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman thanked the international community for assistance.
«We have received solidarity support from the international community», — said the head of government.
According to the Vice Prime Minister-Minister of regional development, construction and housing and communal services of Ukraine Gennady Zubko, Ukraine for the donor conference announced its decision to do its additional contribution of 1.4 million euros.
Funds raised will be used to complete construction of the new safe confinement (NSC) and spent nuclear fuel storage (ISF-2).
According to the report of the speaker of the U.S. state Department, to the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, the United States will allocate an additional 10 million dollars to ensure the safety of future generations who live in the affected areas, reports «RBC-Ukraine».
This amount supplements a USD 400 million that was previously allocated to the States, to restore the ecological security of Ukraine in the areas of disaster within the framework of international efforts.
The state Department also noted the achievements of Ukraine in the drafting of a new shelter for the destroyed reactor, which will soon be installed. It is expected that the facility will protect the environment over the next 100 years.
We will remind, recently the Minister of environmental protection, construction and reactor safety of Germany Barbara Hendricks said that Berlin has already provided Ukraine 120 million euros for liquidation of consequences of the Chernobyl accident, in the future will be allocated 19 million «If I can cover the unit with a new dome from a nuclear reactor will not come a more immediate danger,» the Minister added.
Along with Germany’s financial assistance to Ukraine have 44 States. Partially funds are invested in the creation of a new sarcophagus, which will completely isolate the destroyed fourth unit.
Ukraine will receive from the G7 countries, the USA and the EBRD another € 87.5 million and 10 million dollars for Chernobyl projects 25.04.2016
