Ukraine will keep gas transit only in attracting a foreign partner – the head of «Naftogaz»

The Russian project of a gas pipeline «Northern stream-2» is a serious threat to the Ukrainian gas transportation system (GTS), and to keep the volume of transit of Russian gas through Ukraine is possible only if the foreign partner to the Ukrainian GTS, says the head of Board of NJSC «Naftogaz of Ukraine» Andrey Kobelev.

«The foreign partner is needed to save the transit. Not even for investment, both from the point of view of comfort and transparency for European countries», – said the head of the NAC at a meeting of the relevant Committee of the Parliament in Kiev on Friday, February 19.

Korolev stressed that the completion of the arbitration in Stockholm with Gazprom, expected in late 2016 — early 2017, Ukraine should be ready for investor attraction.

As reported, the project «Northern stream-2» involves the construction of two offshore strings with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Russia to Germany under the Baltic sea.

In early September of 2015, Gazprom, Shell, OMV, E. On. signed the agreement of shareholders of joint project company that will build the gas pipeline «Nord stream-2». In October the Russian President Vladimir Putin personally gave a start to construction of the gas pipeline «Ukhta — Torzhok-2», which will provide gas supplies through the pipeline «Nord stream-2» for gas supplies from Russia to the European Union bypassing Ukraine.
