Ukraine supports the policy of «small steps» in dialogue on Transnistria

Ukraine confirms the consistency of its policy as the country of mediator in the Transnistrian settlement process in support of the policy of «small steps» in dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol. This was stated by Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine in the Republic of Moldova Ivan Gnatyshyn during a meeting with the leader of Transnistria Vadim Krasnoselsky, reports UKRINFORM.

«During the meeting, Ivan Gnatyshyn confirmed the consistency of the policy of Ukraine as a country-mediator to support the tactics of «small steps» in the process of dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol. There was also discussion of some aspects of the negotiation process on the Transnistrian settlement, as well as the solutions to the most pressing issues of socio-economic nature», — said the Ukrainian Embassy in Moldova.

We will remind, the meeting of Ivan Gnatyshyn and Vadim Krasnoselsky took place in the context of the upcoming early February visit to Moldova of the OSCE Chairman, foreign Minister of Austria Sebastian Kurz.

In the negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement in the format «5+2» participate Moldova and Transnistria – parties to the conflict, Ukraine, OSCE, Russia – guarantors and mediators, the EU and the USA — observers.

Earlier it was reported that for the first time since 2008, the Pro-Russian President of Moldova , Igor Dodon met with the leader of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic, located in the Transnistrian region of Moldova.
