Ukraine intends to return to the agenda the issue of the action Plan on membership in NATO – Poroshenko

Ukraine will return to the issue of the action Plan for NATO membership. This was at the briefing in Odessa said the President Petro Poroshenko, the correspondent of the edition «GORDON».

«Our intention to return on the agenda the issue of the action Plan on membership in NATO and the approach of the military-industrial sector to the standards of the Alliance, podtverjdena a public opinion poll strong support of such a strategy – all this indicates that the chosen course is correct and bezalternativno», – said Poroshenko.

In Kiev on 10 July took place the meeting of the Commission Ukraine – NATO. Poroshenko said that Ukraine is not going to urgently apply for membership in the Alliance, and will reform to fit his standards.

In the words of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Ukraine «achieved remarkable progress, but there is still a long way».

Ukraine has intensified its cooperation with NATO in 2014, against the annexation of Crimea to Russia and armed conflict in the Donbass. At the end of 2014, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law that requires the refusal of Ukraine of implementation of policy of «non-alignment».

In accordance with the new Military doctrine of Ukraine, adopted in 2015, the deepening of cooperation with NATO and the achievement of the 2020 full interoperability of the Armed forces of Ukraine with armies of the countries – members of NATO is a priority. The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the decision on Ukraine’s accession to NATO will be made at the referendum.

June 8, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the bill No. 6470, which has legislatively enshrined Ukraine’s intention to join NATO. On 6 July, the law was signed by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
