Ukraine has filed a suit against Russia in international court of justice

Ukraine has filed a lawsuit in the international court of justice to attract the Russian Federation responsible for the Commission of acts of terrorism and discrimination for its illegal aggression against Ukraine.

The lawsuit was filed under the International Convention for the suppression of the financing of terrorism and the International Convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination.

«Ukraine says that the Russian Federation violate the Convention for the suppression of the financing of terrorism by providing arms and other assistance to illegal armed groups, committed a number of acts of terrorism on the territory of Ukraine. The most tragic terrorist attacks of Russian puppets include the Downing of Malaysian airlines flight MH17, the shelling of residential areas in Mariupol and Kramatorsk destruction of civilian passenger bus near Volnovakha and a deadly explosion during a peaceful meeting in Kharkiv», — stated in the message.

In addition, added the foreign Ministry, Ukraine alleges that Russia is violating the Convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination, participating in a campaign of discrimination against non-Russian communities living in the occupied territory of the Crimean Peninsula, in particular, communities of ethnic Ukrainian and Crimean Tatars. Since the illegal «referendum» held in an atmosphere of intimidation, the Russian occupation authorities pursued a policy of cultural destruction of these communities. This discriminatory policy was condemned by the UN General Assembly, and was manifested in the prohibition of the activities of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people, the wave of disappearances, killings, unwarranted searches, detentions, attempts to stop broadcasting media, as well as the restriction on the teaching of Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar languages.

«In the course of illegal aggression in Ukraine, Russia disregards the fundamental human rights vested in every citizen of Ukraine», — said the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin.

«We tried to resolve existing disputes through negotiation for over two years, but Russia is unwilling to stop its violations of international law. So we filed a lawsuit in the international court of justice with the aim of attracting Russian Federation accountable for these breaches and restore the rights of the Ukrainian people guaranteed by these international treaties which participant is the Russian Federation», — stated in the message.

Ukraine also appealed to the international court of justice with a request to impose interim measures aimed at preventing the continuation of human rights violations by Russia in the course of the trial on the merits.

As reported earlier today, President Petro Poroshenko instructed the foreign Ministry to convey the lawsuit in the international court of justice in the Hague about the violation by Russia of the UN Convention on countering the financing of terrorism and the Convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination. Poroshenko stressed that for three years the Pro-Russian militants have carried out numerous terrorist attacks which have claimed hundreds of thousands of innocent people who were forced to leave their homes.

As part of this claim was conducted 5 meetings and directed 45 music.

The second position in the Ukrainian claim for the application of the Convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination, which also consisted of three sessions and received more than 20 notes.

In addition, the President instructed the foreign Ministry and the Ministry of justice to organize support against Russia filed lawsuits aimed at protecting the interests of Ukrainian public companies.
