Today, November 21, Ukraine celebrates the Day of dignity and freedom.
In Kiev and other settlements of the country held a memorial, ceremonial and cultural events with the participation of representatives of Executive authorities, bodies of local self-government, people’s deputies, participants of the revolutionary events in Ukraine in 2004, in 2013-2014, members of the Antiterrorist operation in the East of Ukraine, representatives of public organizations, volunteer movements, youth and clergy.
As the press service of the Channel, from 6:30 a.m. in connection with events in honor of the Day of dignity and freedom in Kiev blocked streets in the city centre.
So, were blocked by the part of Khreshchatyk street: B. Khmelnitskogo street to the European square;
— the street: from Garden street to Independence square;
— the street;
— St. Boris Grinchenko.
«Police appeals to all participants of mass actions with the request to treat with understanding to the work of law enforcement, not to create conflict situations, and also pre-plan your route based on the closed sections of the streets», — stated in the message.
The procedure in Ukraine will provide about 18 thousand militiamen.
Participation in the event will be about 66 thousand people.
«Today, 21 November, in all regions of Ukraine will host approximately 380 events. To avoid any provocations and threats to the life and health of all participants in the stock division of the National police and the National guard are already operating in emergency mode», — stated in the message.
To ensure public order will be involved about 15 thousand policemen and 3 thousand national guardsmen.
A public holiday, the Day of dignity and Freedom is celebrated annually in Ukraine on November 21 after two revolutions – the Orange revolution (2004) and the revolution of dignity (2013-2014).
At the end of November 2013, the refusal of the Ukrainian government from signing the Association Agreement with the European Union became the root cause of the most massive in modern history of the state of the protests. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on 21 November 2013 decided to suspend the process of preparations for signing the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, which was to be signed at the Vilnius summit of «Eastern partnership» on 28-29 November 2013.
After beating dozens of students peacefully protesting on Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kiev by riot police «Berkut» on the night of 30 November 2013, on the streets of cities of Ukraine left hundreds of thousands of citizens.
The protests lasted from late November to end of February 2014, received the name «Euromaidan», «Maidan» and the more recent «Revolution of Dignity». The result was that then-President Viktor Yanukovych in February, after the mass shooting of unarmed civilians on the Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Kiev, fled to Russia.
More than a hundred civilians killed during the overthrow of the authoritarian regime of Viktor Yanukovych in the winter of 2013-2014, are called the Heavenly hundred.
According to the Ministry of health of Ukraine, the clashes in the center of Kiev suffered 1 528 people were killed 106 members of anti-government protests.
