Ukrainian and Polish people should be even closer, which you need to restore the historical truth. Thus, this issue should be dealt with by historians, not politicians.

This was stated by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko during a joint press conference in Warsaw with the President of Poland Andrzej Duda on Friday 2 December.

«We agreed to coordinate actions in order to make our peoples closer, to restore the historical truth. And agreed it is the business of historians, not politicians. It is very important that we move forward,» — said Poroshenko.

He also expressed support for the initiative of the President of Poland on the common decision about finding the people who in due time made an enormous contribution to the salvation of respectively the poles and Ukrainians.

We will remind, on October 20 the Verkhovna Rada adopted the joint with the Polish Sejm’s Declaration of remembrance and solidarity. The document says about the great historical sacrifice of the peoples of Poland and Ukraine to protect the freedom and independence. The parliaments of the two countries pay attention to the fact that the consequence of the signing of the Pact Ribbentrop-Molotov, signed on 23 August 1939 between the two totalitarian regimes, were the occupation of Poland by Germany and the Soviet Union and the mass repressions against the Ukrainian and Polish peoples.

The paper also highlights the fact that «the Russian Federation’s aggressive foreign policy, the occupation of the Crimea, support and implementation of armed intervention in Eastern Ukraine, a violation of the basic norms of international law and treaties signed with Ukraine, the Kremlin’s failure to comply with agreements and maintenance of hybrid information war are a threat to peace and security throughout Europe».
