President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with the head of the Senate of the Parliament of Australia Stephen Perry, the press service of the head of state.
Poroshenko noted the continued support Australia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and condemnation of Russian aggression.
«The parties noted the effective work in the framework of the Joint group for the investigation of the downed Malaysian flight MH17 and pointed out the inevitability of punishment of all involved in this tragedy. The President of the Senate thanked the President of Ukraine for support and assistance in the matter of the investigation of this tragedy», – is told in the message.
Special attention was paid to strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation of the two States. In this context, Poroshenko has hailed the creation of the Parliament of Australia updated friendship group Australia – Ukraine.
The interlocutors also discussed preparations for the next competitions «Games of the unconquered,» which will be held in 2018 in Sydney, Australia.
On 20 September in new York, the Netherlands, Australia, Belgium, Malaysia and Ukraine reaffirmed their political support and cooperation in the prosecution of suspects of involvement in the Downing of flight MH17 «Malaysian airlines» by signing memoranda.
The Boeing 777, carrying out flight MH17 (Amsterdam – Kuala Lumpur) crashed on July 17, 2014 near Torez in Donetsk region. Killed all 298 people who were on Board. 193 of them were Dutch nationals.
July 8, 2015 the Malaysian delegation to the UN circulated a draft resolution to the Security Council of the world organization with the requirement to establish an international Tribunal for an independent investigation of the downed Boeing. However, Russia blocked the adoption of the resolution.
28 September 2016 in the Netherlands international investigation team composed of representatives of the Netherlands, Malaysia, Belgium, Australia and Ukraine, announced the interim results of the investigation. According to the Commission, flight MH17 was shot down from a Buk missile brought from Russia, from territory controlled by Pro-Russian militants.
In July 2017, the international investigative team on the case about the crash Boeing in the Donbass (JIT) – Belgium, Netherlands, Ukraine, Malaysia, Australia agreed to hold the trial, which will be held under the Dutch legislation.
The head of the international Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev said that the court in the case of the crash of the Malaysian Boeing in the Donbass, which will be held in the Netherlands, would not be legitimate.
A criminal investigation into the disaster continues. The proceedings shall be held in the Hague.
