Tymoshenko asks President to pardon convicted employees of Kachanivska colony

The party leader «Batkivshchyna» Yulia Tymoshenko appealed to the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko with a request to pardon former employees of Kachanivska colony Andrei Kovalenko and Andrei Parameewho were recently sentenced to three years in prison for Tymoshenko applied to physical abuse during her stay in a correctional facility in 2012.

As reported in the press service of the party «Batkivshchyna», the letter requesting the pardon of former jailers Tymoshenko said in her speech at the International luncheon as part of activities of the National prayer Breakfast with U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington.

His speech Tymoshenko has been devoted to the topic of forgiveness, repentance and reconciliation, analyzing the history of the world and their own life experience.

Among other things, the leader of the «Batkivschyna» recalled the events of April 20, 2012, when employees of Kachanivska colony, using physical violence and transported her to the hospital. According to Tymoshenko, at that moment she really wanted punishment for those people. At the same time, learning about the court sentences former captors, the leader of «Batkivshchyna» was more a sense of satisfaction, and «sadness and guilt». With that in mind, according to Tymoshenko, she wrote a letter to the President of Ukraine to pardon members of the colony people and asked as soon as possible to release them.

The prayer Breakfast is a traditional set of activities, which has been held annually since 1953. Normally it attracts about 3.5 thousand guests, including invitees from nearly 100 countries. Participants traditionally refers to the President of the United States. Guest lists prayer Breakfast published even after the event, highlighting the apathy of this event.

International lunch is one of the activities of the prayer Breakfast, which will feature international guests — famous politicians, public figures and personalities. For example, in 2015 a speech given by the Dalai Lama.

Recall, April 20, 2012, Yulia Tymoshenko was transferred from the Kharkiv Kachanivska penal colony where she was serving a sentence after conviction on charges of «abuse of powers» during signing gas contracts with Russia in Central clinical hospital No. 5 of Ukrzaliznytsia in Kharkiv.

Later Tymoshenko and her defence lawyers have said that prison staff had beaten her up and transported forcibly.

17 November 2014 the Deputy head of the Kachanivska colony Andrei Kovalenko and Deputy head of the colony Andriy Paramey it was announced about suspicion of committing a crime under part 2 article 365 of the criminal code of Ukraine (excess of authority or official powers). They were elected the measure of restraint in form of detention. However, on 13 November 2014, the Appeals court examining appeals by the defense, changed the measure of restraint to Parley on house arrest. He was also dismissed from his post.

In December 2014 the case against both was transferred to Kominternovsky regional court of Kharkov. The materials on another suspect in a separate process, and he wanted

October 19, 2015 court of Kharkiv sentenced the two Vice-head of the Kachanivska prison Kovalenko and Parley who was accused of using force to Tymoshenko during her stay in the colony.

In accordance with the court verdict, Kavalenka was given 3 years of imprisonment simultaneously with deprivation of the military rank of the Lieutenant Colonel of internal service. After serving his sentence him 3 years are forbidden to work in the prison service.
