Company Twitter has blocked the account 201 in the investigation of Russia’s interference in the US elections of 2016. This was reported in the company blog.
It turned out that of the 450 provided by Facebook to verify accounts, 22 were related to the Twitter accounts. They were blocked for violating the rules of use of social network, mostly for spamming.
«In addition, along with these accounts we found 179 related or connected accounts, and take action against those who violated our rules,» the company said.
However, no account was not registered at Twitter as an advertising. The company noted that it will continue investigating this issue.
Vice President for public policy Twitter Colin Crowell will meet with representatives of the intelligence committees of both houses of Congress.
On 22 September, the founder of Facebook mark Zuckerberg said that the Facebook team will give to Congress information about the purchase of advertising accounts associated with Russia.
On 6 September, the Director of security Facebook Alex Stamos said that almost two years Facebook accounts from Russia were bought and distributed in the social network political advertising. Subsequently, Facebook blocked all these pages, as the social network banned the fake account.
Stamos noted that the majority of these ads do not relate to the topic of the US presidential election or specific candidates. However, these accounts have spread provocative messages involving themes of LGBT, immigration, the right to arms.
In October 2016 the United States government officially accused Russia of hacking into the servers of American political parties, and meddling in the presidential election process in the country. In the Kremlin these charges are called «nonsense».
On 10 December, the CIA concluded that Russia interfered in the U.S. presidential election to help the Republican candidate Donald Trump to win over the representative of the Democratic party Hillary Clinton. The speaker of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, has called such allegations «obscene».
