Tusk – Ukrainians: an External enemy you can’t win but you can lose from themselves

Ukraine has come a long way in terms of reforms, but not enough to build a strong state, said the President of the European Council Donald Tusk at the summit Ukraine – EU on 13 July in Kiev, the correspondent of «GORDON».

«We have come a long way. But it’s only half way,» – said Tusk. He added that the big win is to carry the burden of reforms and not to give up, but there is one thought which he would Express «as a friend of Ukraine.» «Today we see that an external enemy you can’t win. You are strong. But you can fail from ourselves», – said the President of the European Council.

According to him, Ukraine needs to maintain unity and avoid internal conflicts. «There’s nothing worse than the collapse of community. Democracy is different views and the competition and the search for consensus,» – said Tusk.

He stressed that the main task for Ukraine is the construction of «a modern country that cares about its citizens, fights corruption and respects the modern standards of public life».

«If you can pass this exam, no one and nothing you will not win», – summed up Donald Tusk.

July 12 Official journal of the European Union issued a decision on the final ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. The decision comes into force from the moment of adoption. The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that during the summit Ukraine – EU will coordinate ways to ensure the most efficient and speedy achievement of the objectives of the agreement.

Russia annexed Crimea after the illegal referendum on 16 March 2014. The annexation of Crimea by Russia is not recognised by Ukraine and most countries of the world. After the annexation of Crimea in April 2014, in the East of Ukraine began a military conflict that is still ongoing. Fighting underway between the Armed forces of Ukraine and Pro-Russian rebels who control part of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko at the summit on 13 July expressed the hope that the next summits between the EU and Ukraine will be «held in Donetsk and Yalta», and stressed that it needs the solidarity of Brussels with Kiev.
