The President of the United States Donald trump during the summer, has repeatedly called on Republican senators, including the head of the intelligence Committee Richard Burr, to stop the investigation of Russian interference in presidential elections in 2016. On 30 November, writes the New York Times, citing half a dozen legislators and their assistants.
Burr himself noted that the White house told him that «he wants to see the completion of the investigation,» and expressed the hope that it will happen «ASAP.»
According to the newspaper, the U.S. President asked the leader of the Republican majority in the Senate, Mitch McConnell and a member of the intelligence Committee Roy blunt «quickly to stop the investigation.»
The NYT notes that requests trump was very «unusual intervention of the President» in the investigation involving his family and close aides.
On 30 November, the speaker of the house Raj Shah said that the President «did not try to exert undue influence» on members of the intelligence Committee.
In October 2016 the United States government officially accused Russia of hacking into the servers of American political parties, and meddling in the presidential election process in the country. In the Kremlin’s accusations of meddling in Russia’s elections in the United States called «nonsense».
On 10 December, the CIA concluded that Russia interfered in the U.S. presidential election to help the Republican candidate Donald Trump to win over the representative of the Democratic party Hillary Clinton. The speaker of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, has called such allegations «obscene».
