Tombinsky believes is positive for Ukraine, the referendum in the Netherlands

The head of EU delegation Jan Tombinski sure positive for Ukraine the results of the referendum in the Netherlands on 6 April, which will be submitted the question of ratification by this country of the Association Agreement.

He stated this at a meeting with students of the National aviation University on Tuesday, February 2, UNIAN reports.

«I’m sure it will end positively. We need to focus on the fact that the result was positive, but not to manipulate the possible negative result,» — said Tombinsky.

Tombinski said that the European structures to the Dutch side provided with the relevant information, how to explain the necessity of the support of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

«But we also need to show some positive signals from Ukraine», — said the diplomat.

Tombinsky believes that the referendum campaign was held and organized by the opponents of the Association Agreement of Ukraine with the EU. «Those in the more negative the result, interested,» he said.

The Ambassador stated that the Netherlands is a pragmatic country, which need to show results, potential and opportunities.

«This requires many measures on the part of Ukraine. It is the protection of investors (development) of all elements of the fight against corruption, to create equal opportunities for all parties that are interested in economic relations with Ukraine. And also to show good Ukrainian products on the European market,» — said Tombinsky.

At the same time, the head of the EU delegation noted that the actions of the government of the Netherlands in case of negative result of the referendum is still unknown.

«Might have to go again parliamentary procedure,» he said.

As reported, on 6 April 2016 in the Netherlands will take place the Advisory referendum on the Association Agreement EU-Ukraine. The vote is taken on the question: «are You «for» or «against» the ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU?». The referendum was initiated by a group GeenPeil.

According to the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, the referendum in the Netherlands on the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union does not stop his actions.

The agreement on free trade zone between Ukraine and the EU are earned in full from 1 January 2016. It was assumed that the free trade regime between Ukraine and the EU will take effect from October 2014. However, in September 2014, after consultations in Brussels representatives of the European Commission, Ukraine and the Russian Federation, the parties agreed to postpone the introduction of the provisions of the agreement until December 31, 2015.

Tombinski said that in the current EU there are no negative signals in respect of labour migrants from Ukraine.

«Recently we heard no strong negative opinion concerning the migration of workers from Ukraine to Europe» — said Tombinsky.

However, he said that Europe needs in the workforce. According to him, Ukrainians are well adapted to the conditions in the EU.

He has pointed out that in Poland there are hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians. «And it has no effect (negative) on the public opinion of the people,» the Ambassador said, noting that labor migrants bring benefits to Poland.

According to him, Poland is interested to take more Ukrainians on formal contracts. In this connection it is important that the Ukrainians worked legally.

In addition, he noted that there may be circumstances where an opinion on labor migrants from Ukraine to the EU may change.

Tombinski remembered that in the mid-2000s were debates about that for a short time in Portugal came 100 thousand Ukrainians. The discussions centred on the integration of Ukrainians into Portuguese society.

Tombinski noted that there were many critics about the need for integration of Ukrainians, but time has shown that they are well integrated into Portuguese society. «These workers, they work for the benefit of the countries in which they are located», — said the diplomat.

Recall that in July 2015 the international organization for migration (IOM) said about the increase in the number of Ukrainians who are working unofficially abroad.

According to a survey conducted by the organization, 8% of Ukrainians, that is 3 million people, planning to find work abroad in the near future.
