The Walloon Parliament supported the agreement about free trade zone between the EU and Canada

The Parliament of the Belgian French-speaking region of Wallonia on Friday, October 28, voted for the agreement on free trade area (FTA) between the European Union and Canada (CETA), thus removing the last obstacle to the signing of the document.

As reported by Reuters, 58 members of the Walloon Parliament voted «for» the agreement, while voted against only five deputies, reports DW.

Earlier it was reported that the parliaments of the regions of Belgium on 28 October vote in favour of the compromise text of the CETA agreement.

Observers predict that on Saturday October 29 the text of the FTA between the EU and Canada will be ready for signing.

Recall that the EU-Canada was canceled due to the fact that the regions of Belgium, the parliaments of which was to agree on the text of the agreement, opposed the signing of the CETA. In recent days, the Central government of Belgium held talks with the regions to reach a compromise. Wallonia, capital region Brussels and the Flemish region criticized the lack of protection by agreement of the interests of agricultural producers in the EU, and also doubted the legality of the decision of disputes under the FTA arbitral tribunals.

Note that Ukraine and Canada have signed an agreement on the completion of negotiations on free trade zone between the two countries in July 2016. The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the agreement on free trade zone between Ukraine and Canada will take effect immediately but will be implemented into the 7 years.
