The Wall Street Journal. Merkel criticizes lack of progress on the part of Ukraine and Russia

«German Chancellor Angela Merkel has publicly expressed chagrin about the fact that Ukraine and Russia failed to advance to the practical implementation of the initial conditions of their peaceful political agreement,» writes a reporter for the Wall Street Journal Zeke Turner.

On Monday, before a meeting with Ukrainian President Poroshenko, Merkel said that in the Donbass fighting continues between separatists and Ukrainian forces, despite the agreement on a ceasefire and the holding of elections in local authorities.

«I must say that, unfortunately, we don’t have a lasting ceasefire, which, of course, a precondition for the implementation of the various paragraphs of the Minsk agreement», — said the Chancellor.

«We want to make Ukraine as soon as possible resumed growth industry,» she added, mentioning the IMF program. «According to Merkel, that Ukraine and Russia failed to end fighting, prevent any discussions about the lifting of economic sanctions imposed on Russia,» the newspaper writes.

For its part, Poroshenko said: «Russia and its representatives do not abide by the ceasefire».
