In the United States has urged the Ukrainian authorities to de-escalate the situation around the ex-President of Georgia and leader of the party «movement novih forces» of Mikhail Saakashvili. This was at the briefing on 5 December, the transcript of which is published on the website of the US State Department, said state Department spokesman Heather Nauert.
«We are closely monitoring the situation and what happened in Kiev. As you know, we are in close contact. We have a good relationship with the government of Ukraine. This does not mean that we agree with him in everything. We urge the authorities in Ukraine to de-escalate the situation. Of course, we have seen reports about various activities on the streets. We urge all parties to avoid violence and follow the rule of law and international obligations,» said Neuert.
She also said that in the case of «detention or arrest anyone,» it should be done «in accordance with the laws of the country and international obligations in the field of human rights».
5 Dec Saakashvili in Kiev was detained by the security Service of Ukraine. He was charged with the assistance of members of the criminal organizations and concealment of their criminal activity.
