Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate considers unfounded and inappropriate statements in the Declaration of Pope Francis and the Russian Patriarch Kirill. This is stated in the statement of the press center of the Kyiv Patriarchate of the UOC regarding the document, which, among other things, the events in the Donbass is called the «confrontation» and «conflict in Ukraine».
It notes that the UOC-KP supports interfaith and inter-religious dialogue, but was disappointed at the points 25, 26 and 27 of the joint Declaration of the heads of the Catholic Church and the Moscow Patriarchate signed on February 12, 2016 in Havana.
«The above articles of the Declaration permeated with the spirit of the worst examples of secular diplomacy, filled with double innuendo, biased assessments and groundless claims. In our opinion, the document, which ought to manifest the believer and the world the position of the Churches, it would be better not to address points raised in paragraphs 25 to 27 topics than to cover them in this form,» — said in a statement.
The Kyiv Patriarchate considers unacceptable «diplomacy», when «the decision about Ukraine and the Ukrainian Church and public Affairs accept without representatives of Ukraine, ignoring their opinion and position.»
Question of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church in paragraph 25 of the Declaration «does not take into account opinion and position of this Church», said in a statement.
The «assessment «of the conflict in Ukraine» (p. 26) completely ignore the main reason the Russian military, political, economic and informational aggression against Ukraine, Russia’s violation of international agreements and norms of international law, the occupation by the Russian Federation of the Crimea and part of Donbass», — is indignant the UOC-KP.
«Assessment of the situation in the Orthodox Church in Ukraine (p. 27) ignores the fact that the cause of the separation is a violation of the canons it is the Moscow Patriarchate», — emphasized there.
The Ministers hope that in the future the Vatican in the preparation of documents concerning the Ukraine «will take as an example the best and not the worst kind».
«The Church is called to reveal the truth. In the issue war in Ukraine the truth is that it’s not a civil war, no internal conflict, no confrontation between different Nations or followers of different religions,» says the UOC-KP.
«The cause of the war in Eastern Ukraine – armed, political, economic and informational aggression of Russia against our country. The goal of this aggression is to prevent the European integration of our country, to force her to return to obedience to the Kremlin. In fact, in Ukraine now is the same as happened with Czechoslovakia in 1938 and 1968, Hungary in 1956 and Afghanistan in 1979,» says the Patriarchy.
Applied in paragraph 26 of the Declaration the formulation and assessment of events in Ukraine, «are not evidence of the truth, and relaxed repetition of formulas of Russian propaganda, which imposes on the world an opinion on «the internal Ukrainian crisis», which Russia allegedly has no relation», — podcherkivaetsya in the statement of the UOC-KP.
«From the Patriarch of Moscow, which depends on the Kremlin, we did not expect something different. But the signature of the Pope, under these formulations has become for many, especially in Ukraine, a big disappointment,» says the UOC-KP.
«Also it’s a shame that mentioning the persecution of Christians in various parts of the world, the authors of the Declaration do not say anything about the persecution and harassment of believers of different faiths in the occupied Crimea and controlled by the Kremlin collaborators territories of Donbass», — stressed the Ukrainian Church.
The UOC-KP also calls one of the reasons for the separation of the Orthodox Church «non-canonical appropriation of the Moscow Patriarchate in 1686 the authorities on the Kiev Metropolitanate», i.e., «annexation by Moscow Church in Ukraine» and accused Russian Church in hampering the relations between the UOC-KP and the Catholic Church.
Earlier the head of the UGCC his Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk) stated that the Greek Catholics feel betrayed by the Vatican.
In 2015, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko invited the Pope to visit Ukraine, and the Pontiff accepted the invitation.
