The UN General Assembly will hold an extraordinary session because of the status of Jerusalem

The UN General Assembly on 21 December will hold a special emergency session, which will consider the status of Jerusalem. This was reported by Reuters.

The meeting was initiated a number of Arab and Muslim States.

On 6 December, the President of the United States Donald trump has officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and announced the postponement of the U.S. Embassy in this city.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, President of France Emmanuel macron and Prime Minister of great Britain, Theresa may, did not support the initiative of the White house. The foreign Minister of the European Union Federica Mogherini stated that the EU will not move its Embassy in Israel from tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

In Palestine riots broke out. In clashes between Arab activists and the Israel police injured dozens of people.

In some countries protests were held. The leaders of the 57 Muslim States urged the world to «recognize the State of Palestine» and East Jerusalem as its «occupied capital».

18 December the US vetoed a resolution of the UN Security Council, which rejected unilateral actions of Washington against the status of Jerusalem. The document was submitted by the delegation of Egypt. The initiative was supported by all members of the UN security Council except the United States.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem after the 1967 war and considers the entire city its capital. The Palestinians, in turn, want to declare East Jerusalem the capital of their state.

The administrative capital of Israel is now in tel Aviv and the Palestinian authority based in Ramallah.
