The speaker of the Parliament of Moldova has signed a law that prohibits the broadcasting of Russian TV

The speaker of the Moldovan Parliament Andrian CANDU signed a bill on security of the information space instead of the President Igor Dodon, which the constitutional court has temporarily discharged of performance of duties. This is the website of the Parliament of Moldova.

On 7 December, the Moldovan Parliament adopted in two readings the bill on the security of the information space.

In connection with the adopted draft law in Moldova will cease to Russian news broadcast and political show, as Russia signed the European Convention on transfrontier television in 2006, but has not ratified it.

The bill does not say directly about banning of Russian TV. However, the proponents are talking about the Russian propaganda and its harm. Opponents of the bill argued its position of human rights and freedom of speech. The fraction of Communists left the hall without waiting for a vote.

20 Dec Dodon returned the bill for reconsideration to the Parliament, and on December 22, the Parliament passed it again without changes. The President and then refused to sign the law and asked the country’s constitutional court with a request to consider the question of its constitutionality.

On 5 January the constitutional court of Moldova suspended from office Dodon. After discharge the duties of the President are transferred to the Chairman of the Parliament, which must sign blocked the laws. If the speaker of the Parliament signed a law, it would have to do the Prime Minister of Moldova.
