The SBU reminded Ruthenian provocateur on criminal liability for separatism

The security service of Ukraine official warned a local resident who openly promotes the Rusynism in Transcarpathia. Provocateur had previously been active in support of the Ruthenian movement, and 31 Dec 2016 posted before yeah Ruthenian tricolor.

«The staff of management of SBU in the Transcarpathian region announced an official warning to the man who near the administrative building of the regional state administration in Uzhgorod, along with the State flag of Ukraine posted «the Ruthenian tricolor», as the provocateur expressed his commitment to implement the results of the regional referendum in 1991″, — stated in the message.

According to the press-service SBU officially warned the citizen about the criminal liability for encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine.

As said by the activist, the leader of the organization «Carpathian Sich» Taras Deyak, it was members of their organization noticed in time and tore down the flag of the Ruthenians, who provocateurs posted 31 December in front of RSA at the flagpole near the Ukrainian flag, clearing the front of the EU flag. Provocateurs militiamen detained the same day.

Rusyns in Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Serbia are officially recognized as a national minority. The Ukrainian authorities consider Rusyns as an ethnographic group of Ukrainians.

In 1992 and 2002, the Transcarpathian regional Council appealed to the Central authorities of Ukraine to recognize Rusyns as a separate nationality.

On 7 March 2007, the Transcarpathian regional Council decided to recognize the Rusyns as indigenous nationality of the Transcarpathian region. Ukrainian nationalist organizations, including the Congress of Ukrainian nationalists and the society «Prosvita», demanded that President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko to cancel the decree as illegal.

In August 2006, the Committee on the elimination of racial discrimination, the United Nations recommended that the government of Ukraine to consider recognizing Ruthenians as a national minority because there are «substantial differences between Rusyns and Ukrainians.»
