The Russian government is trying to divide the EU from within — Schultz

European Parliament President Martin Schulz believes that the Russian leadership is trying to divide the European Union from the inside. About Schultz said Saturday in Munich during a «presidential panel» in the framework of the Munich security conference, UNIAN reports.

«I fully share the view Poroshenko (President of Ukraine) that the intentions of the Russian leadership to divide the European Union from the inside. Skeptics are anti-European, Islamophobic, homophobic, and any kind of party very strongly represented in the European Parliament, I listen to them with my colleagues every day, and if I compare with the rhetoric of the party of Putin in Russia, the messages that they spread throughout Europe, they are the same. And for me it is not a surprise,» said Schultz.

In support of his words he cited the «well known fact», when the French party national Front «received money from Russia.»

The EP President recalled that in the second half of the last century in Europe agreed on a single principle, «which can prevent repetition of mistakes the first part of the century.» «It is the solidarity of Nations and mutual respect. And that’s what Putin questioned, increasing the number of political parties in Europe, and it even rose to the level of governments. We, in the EU, is the party in government, in offices, which questioned the principles of solidarity, mutual respect and inter-ethnic democracy,» said Schultz.
