Six Ukrainian research institutions will be involved in projects of the European organization for nuclear research (CERN). About it reports a press-service of the Ministry of education and science.
«The regular meeting of the Council of the European organization for nuclear research (CERN), in which Ukraine first participated as an associate member of the organization. During a meeting of the Council, Director General of CERN presented the report, noting that 2016 was very important to the Large hadron Collider, however, is not the only important project, which is implemented by the research center. There are several other large and small experiments related to accelerator technology, plasma physics, astrophysics, physics of neutrinos, proton and antiproton beams. These projects Ukraine plans to raise 6 research institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine», — stated in the message.
It is noted that the participation of Ukrainian scientists in the research and the CERN experiments will facilitate additional investment in Ukraine. Also, the Ukrainian Industrialists will get an opportunity to produce products to supply to the research center.
In addition, now we are discussing the possibility of expanding educational programmes and courses for Ukrainian teachers at CERN.
This year, CERN will introduce new initiatives relating to student programs. So, it is planned to simplify the conditions for visits and youth work in the organization and, in addition, invite for 2 weeks, 24 students from 5 countries that will undergo training in the form of lecture courses.
Notification of the Agreement between Ukraine and the European organization for nuclear research was held on 1 October 2016. Ukraine was offered a unique form of cooperation – it has become an associate member of CERN, so pay significantly less contributions than the 22 States members of the organization. At the same time Ukraine can participate in all forms of scientific cooperation, it is possible for members of CERN.
Large hadron Collider — the largest at the moment, the device for carrying out accelerator experiments in particle physics. Inside the ring the protons are accelerated to energies of about 6.5 GeV and collide in four points of intersection of colliding beams. One of the main scientific results of the LHC was the discovery of the Higgs boson, which physicists o announced in 2012. Interestingly, boson is already apparent in the new statistics, collected in 2016.
The research at CERN will attract six Ukrainian institutions 13.01.2017
