The President pardoned 14 people

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko by decree No. 274/2016 of June 24, 2016 pardoned 14 people — three women and eleven men. Of them from further punishment released six of eight had reduced the length of prison sentences.

According to the report, to meet the requests for pardon of 89 people was not sufficient grounds. The petition of the prisoners that have been convicted, or has committed a serious or particularly serious intentional crimes or such, although he committed a mild crime, but in fact has served a very minor sentence.

Among the pardoned six people older than 65 years. All pardoned except one man, have one record. Eight of them were serving sentences of deprivation of liberty for a term of seven years or more. All of the pardoned are citizens of Ukraine.

After the last session of the Commission on clemency under the President of Ukraine, which took place in December 2015, the Department of pardons was received 669 requests for clemency 608 prisoners. During this period, was considered for a pardon 277 people, including in 2016, six decrees of the head of state pardoned 41, underlined in the message.
