The Patriarch likened insulting the feelings of believers towards extremism

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill called insulting the feelings of believers a form of extremism. He spoke about it with the mufti of Uzbekistan Alimov Smanjenom in Tashkent, reports «Interfax».

According to the Russian Patriarch, insulting the feelings of believers – «that undermines the foundations of social existence» and «provokes internal conflicts». He also expressed the opinion that traditional religions «strengthen the foundations of national life».

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church stressed that the media «not gently» refer to the feelings of the people and offended the religious feelings of believers of different faiths.

Until 2013 in Russia, insulting religious feelings was an administrative offense. In June 2013, adopted amendments to increase accountability «for insulting the feelings of believers». The amendments also establish criminal liability in the form of imprisonment for «public actions expressing clear disrespect for society and committed to insult the religious feelings of believers».
