More than 500 thousand residents of the occupied territories of the Luhansk region can remain without water because of the inaction of the so-called authorities.
It is reported by the Ministry of the temporarily occupied territories and internally displaced persons.
«In connection with non-payment of separate districts of Luhansk region for the supplied water, more than half a million people in the region, the vast majority of whom live in non-government-controlled territory of Ukraine can stay without water,» — said in the message.
It is noted that this situation is due to systematic non-payments for the volumes of water consumed in uncontrolled territory in recent years.
«As a result, the debt of the water company KP «popasnaja district Vodokanal» for electricity has exceeded 121 million UAH and in danger of bankruptcy. This may result in a complete cessation of water supply in the region, as in the uncontrolled and controlled by Ukrainian government of the territory that will lead to a humanitarian and environmental disaster,» — noted in the Ministry.
The Ministry stresses that the Ukrainian side is taking all possible measures to prevent the development of the situation in such a scenario. In particular, it has been repaired water mains, metering devices, adopted the tariff for water supply, etc.
As a temporary measure, an agreement was reached with the International Committee of the red cross, which has provided funds that made it possible to continue the water supply during the last two months. It also allowed us to start the heating season.
«In turn, representatives of ORLO, contrary to Minsk agreements, continue to ignore initiated by the Ukrainian side proposals for the solution of the question of payment for the supplied water,» — said in a statement.
Earlier it was reported that the debt of the inhabitants of the occupied Lugansk on payment of housing services is about 46 million hryvnia (over the course of the national Bank, about 46 million UAH – ed.).
