The national Bank of Ukraine in the first half of 2017 was sent to law enforcement agencies 10 letters with information on suspicious transactions of the customers of 22 banks, the press service of the regulator.
NBU has provided law enforcement information, which is mostly related to the conduct of customers of banks in risky financial transactions with cash in significant volumes, as well as the transfer of funds outside Ukraine, which may indicate the withdrawal of capital from the country.
According to the Director of the Department of financial monitoring of Igor Birch, to prevent banking risks in the sphere of financial monitoring, the NBU has introduced a risk-based approach that allows banks to assess the real financial possibilities of the clients, wishing to perform financial transactions.
«These steps will positively affect the ability of banks to efficiently analyze financial transactions to identify suspicious or circuit financial transactions,» added Birch.
The cooperation of the National Bank with law enforcement occurs on a regular basis, in accordance with the requirements of the current legislation, stress in the press-service, and remind us that financial transactions in amounts equal to or exceeding UAH 150 thousand, related by the law of Ukraine 1702-VII «On prevention and counteraction to legalization (laundering) of proceeds from crime, financing of terrorism and financing of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction» to transactions that are subject to compulsory financial monitoring.
