The Ministry of justice does not intend to arrest the gas transported to the EU from Russia, in the framework of the antitrust case – Petrenko

The Ministry of justice does not intend to arrest transported to the countries of the European Union gas from Russia in the framework of the recovery from the Russian gas monopoly «Gazprom» penalty of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine in the amount of 172 billion. This was stated by the Minister of justice Pavel Petrenko at the briefing on June 20, which was broadcast channel «Smut teritoralna management ustic have Krivohatsky region» in YouTube.

According to Petrenko, the justice Department is considering all options to recover funds from «Gazprom», but not those that would harm the European countries.

«Our actions are not directed against EU countries that are our partners and consume Russian gas,» – said the Minister.

He noted that the Russian gas transported through Ukraine in the framework of contracts with European partners.

Petrenko also called on Gazprom to pay a fine, as, in the opinion of the Ministry, its size is not critical for the Russian company.

In January 2016, the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine fined «Gazprom» on the 85 billion UAH for abuse of a monopoly position in the market of transit of natural gas Ukraine. «Gazprom» tried to challenge this decision, but it was several times confirmed by the Ukrainian courts.

22 February 2017 Kyiv economic court of appeal once again upheld the lower court on confirmation of the penalties from «Gazprom» of a fine, which rose to 172 billion UAH at the expense of penalties for his failure to pay.

On 16 may, the Supreme economic court of Kiev has rejected the cassation appeal of «Gazprom» for the recovery of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine fined 172 billion. On the same day, the State Executive service of Ukraine opened proceedings on the imposition of a fine. On 31 may, the Ministry of justice of Ukraine has informed Russian gas monopoly «Gazprom» about the arrest-owned holding company stock company «Gaztranzit» in the framework of the antitrust case.
