The Ministry of education and science of Ukraine is interested in resumption of cooperation with the world Bank and hopes to support institutions in implementing reforms. This was stated by the Minister of education and science, Liliya Hrynevych , during a meeting with world Bank country Director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova satu Kähkönen, according to Government portal.
«The world Bank is very active in post-Soviet countries. Unfortunately, the Ministry of education and science is not good enough relationship with your institution in previous periods. But now the Ministry has changed, and we are convinced that the world Bank’s work in Ukraine in the direction of education will be very productive and will help our country,» — said Grinevich.
In the final stages of negotiations is the project «Strengthening policy-making based on evidence using educational statistics and analysis», which will be implemented in cooperation with the world Bank.
«The project consists of three components. First, the development of integrated Information system of education which will incorporate the education database will include the creation of the open data portal. The second — preparation for participation in the Programme for international students assessment (PISA). And, third, strengthening the Institute of educational analysts, which is to become the leading institution in the field of educational statistics and Analytics in Ukraine», — reported in the MES.
The project implementation period — 2 years, total cost 400 thousand dollars. USA. For its implementation the world Bank will provide 340 thousand. grant, and the rest will be provided the Institute of educational analysts by covering the administrative costs of the enterprises.
The Minister also told the representatives of the world Bank on the Ministry’s priorities for the medium term. Among them quality assurance in higher education, modernization of vocational education and the implementation of the reform of secondary education «New Ukrainian school.»
«We understand the importance of planned reforms, especially with regard to secondary education, which has a direct impact on the life of society. The people with whom I have had the opportunity to chat, very concerned that the quality of education in Ukrainian schools is falling,» said Kähkönen.
She added that the world Bank is ready to support the MES in the implementation of reforms, in particular by providing recommendations and analysis. Further deepening of cooperation, according to the world Bank Director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova, perhaps after Mont will demonstrate determination in carrying out reforms.
