The Ministry of culture of Ukraine calls on Ukrainian Orthodox Church to publicly condemn the military aggression of Russia against Ukraine and to stop cooperation with terrorists from the occupied areas of Donetsk and Lugansk regions. This is stated in a statement posted on the Ministry’s website.
The authors of the statement believe that it «will become a real confirmation of the declarations of the alleged support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine».
From the UOC also required «to pay special attention and give proper canonical disciplinary and public evaluation of systemic anti-Ukrainian statement and actions of individual representatives of the clergy and the higher clergy, who took the outright collaborationist stance, openly collaborating, justifying morally and spiritually supporting the Russian occupiers».
One example that drew the attention of the Ministry of culture, was the information on the website of the separatist Agency «Source» that the Metropolitan Mitrofan of Lugansk and Alchevsk, which is a permanent member of the Holy Synod of the Church, personally engaged in creation so-called Lugansk Committee on Affairs of religion and spirituality «LC».
The Ministry of culture of Ukraine appealed also to the law enforcement authorities with a proposal to give a legal assessment of anti-Ukrainian actions and statements of some representatives of the clergy and the higher clergy of the UOC.
The authors of the statement did not specify what the Patriarchate of the UOC have in mind. Metropolitan Mitrofan, in question, is a representative of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate.

The armed conflict in Eastern Ukraine began in April 2014. Fighting underway between the Armed forces of Ukraine and Pro-Russian rebels who control part of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
