The majority of Britons would like to stay in EU — poll

51% of Britons would like to stay in the European Union. This is evidenced by the results of a survey commissioned by The Independent.

41% of respondents want to leave the EU. 7% of respondents said that «undecided» on this question, 1% refused to answer.

The publication notes that this is the highest number of opponents Brexit since the referendum in June 2016.

In the survey, which was conducted December 5-8, took part 1509.

A referendum on British exit from the EU was held on 23 June 2016. According to the results, 51.9% of Britons voted for the country’s withdrawal from the community of 48.1% – wanted to remain in the EU.

The official procedure of withdrawal of Britain from the EU was launched on 29 March 2017 and will take two years.

19 June 2017 in Brussels began negotiations for a Brexit.

7 Dec completed the first phase of the dialogue. The parties agreed that after the British exit from the EU between Northern Ireland and Ireland will not be rigid boundaries.
