Moldova needs help from the West in the fight against Russia. The leader of the ruling Democratic party, Vladimir plahotniuc, wrote in an article for the U.S. edition of the Wall Street Journal.

According to him, the West’s support of peoples who are «at the forefront of military and information aggression of Russia», is «critical».

Plahotniuc said that Russian troops are in Moldova, and 25 years after the country gained its independence. In his opinion, «it is time for the international community to stand firm against Moscow.»

The leader of the ruling party wrote that Moldova seeks to reduce its dependence on Russian gas and hopes for the support of the European Union.

Speaking about the economy, Moldovan politician told an agreement with the International monetary Fund, and stated that in the period from 2011 to 2014, Russia-backed interest groups «manipulated» the banking system of the country, «to launder more than $20 billion.»

According to Plahotniuc, only the strong and well-managed state can resist the influence of Russia. He complained that a significant portion of Moldova’s population is exposed to mass media, controlled by Russia, and cause «anxiety».

The politician said that Moscow is engaged in «incitement to ethnic hatred and distrust of the West,» but Moldova is «determined to stop this propaganda.»

«But we need the West,» he noted, drawing attention to the need to invest in independent media market.

Plakhotnyuk also said that the President of Moldova, Igor Dodon, together with the «powerful political forces» are Pro-Russian, and Russia’s intervention undermines the country’s progress.

«We need to force our Western partners», – the politician wrote, adding that the country «cannot go it alone».
