The law on domestic violence adopted no rules about sexual orientation and gender features, Zalischuk

Before the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the law on prevention and combating domestic violence have changed. This was stated in Facebook the people’s Deputy from Petro Poroshenko’s Block Svitlana zalishchuk.

«Another disappointment. Rada voted for the law on preventing and combating domestic violence. But! After removing all the norms associated with violence due to sexual orientation and gender features,» she wrote.

According to the MP, the Council of Europe does not recognize the ratification of the Istanbul Convention by Ukraine «in this amputated form.»

«The changes distort the Istanbul Convention, which was to fight against any discrimination. But the vote in Parliament demonstrated that discrimination in Ukraine is a part of political thinking, part of their political culture. We continue to divide people into equal and more equal. And, unfortunately, some MPs led this ideology,» said Zalishchuk.

She noted that during the vote abstained.

«Yes, the law contains many positive rules, but it’s too much of a compromise. The removal of the terms «gender» and «sexual orientation», which are part of the legal sector of most developed democracies around the world consider unacceptable,» wrote the MP.
