The Ministry of information policy of Ukraine commented on the information about possible suspension of satellite broadcasting of the TV channel ATR, stating that they will not allow closure in Crimea «a priceless heritage of the Crimean Tatar people, which plays an important role in preserving its language, traditions and overall culture.» The text of the statement published on the official website of the Ministry of information policy of Ukraine.
«The ATR channel is a unique national-cultural phenomenon not only in Ukraine but all over the world. Devoid of material and technical base, remaining in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea due and payable to the Swedish company «SES ASTRA AB», the TV channel ATR was in a situation that jeopardizes his future satellite broadcasting,» — noted in the IIP.
The Department stressed that the Ukrainian government has already made a step towards national self-government of Crimean Tatars, including in the state budget for this year is 60 million.
At the same time, people’s Deputy of Ukraine, the head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov said that, despite the fact that the channel is a private enterprise, a portion of these funds will be used, including, for its financial support.
In addition, the risk of further broadcasting of the TV channel, the Ministry of information policy sent a letter to the company «SES ASTRA AB» a postponement of the date of execution of the debt obligations in respect of the company «Atlant-SV» (ATR).
In the Ministry of Information assured that at the next Cabinet meeting for discussion the question of payment of the debt to the ATR channel, in particular, at the expense of funds envisaged in the state budget to solve the problems of the Crimea.
«The Ministry declares its support for ATR and encourages everyone, including the company «SES ASTRA AB» (Sweden), to prevent the implementation of actions and decision that may lead to the termination of the broadcast the Crimean Tatar TV channel», — the statement stresses.
Earlier it was reported that the ATR channel might stop broadcasting in the Crimea because of the inability to pay for satellite transmissions, associated with the difficult financial situation of the media holding, who moved from Crimea to mainland Ukraine.
