The head of the Supreme court of Poland stated that the government «is on the edge of a precipice»

The Polish authorities «carry out a coup» against the proceedings. This was stated in an open letter to the President of the Supreme court of Poland małgorzata Gersdorf, writes «BBC Ukraine».

Giersdorf stressed that the government «is on the edge of the abyss», which may collapse the whole country.

«There is a coup against the structure of one of the most important institutions of the country. It goes without the use of troops or security forces, and abuse of legislative institutions,» she said.

Predsedatel the Supreme court urged the government not to violate the social contract that is the Constitution of the state.

On 29 July, the European Commission has accused the Polish authorities in the implementation of an unbalanced judicial reform.

On 20 December the European Commission invited the EU Council to impose sanctions against Poland. It was noted that over the past two years, the country has adopted 13 laws that allowed the Executive and legislative branches of government to interfere in the work of the courts.

Three former President of Poland – Lech Walesa, Aleksander Kwasniewski and Komorowski – in an open letter said that the judicial reform can lead to the dictatorship of the ruling party «law and justice».

The President of Poland Andrzej Duda on 20 December signed the bills of the National judicial Council and the Supreme court, despite criticism from European institutions.
