The head of the IMF urged Ukraine to ensure the independence of anti-corruption structures

Director of the International monetary Fund Christine Lagarde urged the Ukrainian authorities to ensure the independence of the National anti-corruption Bureau and the Specialized anticorruption Prosecutor’s office. This is stated in a statement, Lagarde, published on the IMF website.

«We are deeply concerned about recent events in Ukraine, which can minimize the progress achieved in the establishment of independent institutions to fight corruption at the highest level,» she said.

According to Lagarde, the fight against corruption is a key requirement of the Ukrainian society and part of the government’s commitments under the IMF program.

«We also urge the authorities to move quickly to the adoption of the law on an independent anti-corruption Tribunal in accordance with the recommendations of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, which is necessary for the adjudication of corruption cases at the highest level», – said the head of the IMF.

NABU said that the Prosecutor General’s office and the security Service of Ukraine illegally intervened in a special operation aimed at identifying participants of an organized criminal group in the State migration service, and called such actions «sabotage».

The head of GPU, Yury Lutsenko and the SBU Basil Gritsak criticized the activities of the NEB.

On 6 December, the chairmen of the factions of the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko and «popular front» Artur Gerasimov and Maksym Burbak have registered a bill No. 7362, which I propose to give the Parliament the right to Express no confidence in the heads of the National anti-corruption Bureau, the State Bureau of investigation, Specialized anti-corruption prosecutors and members of the National Agency for prevention of corruption.

The people’s Deputy from BPP Sergey Leshchenko said that the Council can vote on this bill on 7 December. He called it «the murder of NABOO».

Transparency international warned that the bill would mean «the dismantling of anti-corruption reforms in Ukraine».
