The government of Russia has approved the candidacy of the ex-Chancellor of Germany, head of Committee of shareholders Nord Stream AG Gerhard schröder as candidate for the election of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of «Rosneft», reported «Interfax» source.
The interviewee stated that the relevant Directive is approved by the government of the Russian Federation.
According to him, the decision to entrust Schroeder is due to the fact that he is «influential politician of world scale, consistently advocating for strategic cooperation in Germany and Europe with Russia in the energy sphere.»
In addition, the ex-Chancellor has «exclusive competence and experience of independent Director in the largest Russian and international oil and gas companies, including as Chairman of the Board of Directors.»
Currently, the Board of Directors of Rosneft is headed by the Russian presidential aide Andrei Belousov. Extraordinary meeting of shareholders of the company, which will elect a new Board of Directors is scheduled for September 29 in St. Petersburg.
On 2 September the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel noted that it upsets the desire of his predecessor Schroeder to occupy an important position in the company, are in the sanctions list.
After retiring from the post of Chancellor of Germany in 2005, Schroeder Chairman of the Supervisory Board, and the Committee of shareholders of company Nord Stream AG, which manages Russian gas pipeline «Nord stream». In 2016, he led the company Nord Stream 2 – operator construction of the third and fourth strings of the pipeline.
30 August Schroeder called Russia a «big neighbor» Germany, and said that the isolation of the Russian Federation in Germany unprofitable. Ex-Chancellor added that «the demonization of Russia will not benefit anyone,» and stated that it will uphold its intention to enter into the composition of the Board of Directors of «Rosneft».
The Russian company falls under sectoral EU sanctions imposed on Russia in 2014 in connection with the annexation of Crimea.
