The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a new procedure for the appointment of academic scholarships, according to which their provision and the size will depend on student performance.

According to the report, academic scholarships with January 1, 2017 will be assigned according to the rating grades, which are based on the academic achievements of the student during the last semester of each faculty, course, specialty. In this component of success in ranking is at least 90% of the rating points, and the procedure of calculation of rating points is determined by the educational institution.
The Commission, which decides issues of scholarships assignment to students of higher educational institutions, will be composed of no less than 50% of the representatives of student government and the primary trade Union organizations of students and postgraduates. While the scholarship students who will occupy the highest ranking position will increase by 45%.
In addition, the Cabinet has established scholarships for students of higher educational institutions.
In particular, the minimum academic scholarships in vocational schools is 415 UAH in institutions of I-II level of accreditation — 830 UAH in institutions of III-IV level of accreditation — 1100 UAH. At the same time, the amount of social scholarships in vocational schools is 1000 UAH, in higher education institutions — 2000 UAH. While academic scholarships of the President of Ukraine in vocational schools is 1200 UAH, in institutions of I-II level of accreditation — 1800 UAH, institutions of III-IV level of accreditation — 2300 UAH. Same personal and academic scholarship, established by the Cabinet, in vocational schools is 1000 UAH, universities of I-II accreditation — 1600 UAH, in universities of III-IV accreditation — 2100 UAH.
In addition, increased scholarships at the level of 1400 UAH students will receive 20 specialties: secondary education (mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry, computer science); special education; biology; Earth science; physics and astronomy; applied physics and nanomaterials; mathematics; applied mechanics; materials science; engineering; aviation, rocket and space technology; shipbuilding; metallurgy; power engineering, electrical engineering; energy engineering; nuclear energy; thermal power; hydropower; mining; oil and gas engineering and technology.
We will remind, the budget for 2017 includes an increase in spending for scholarships at 576 million UAH — to 5.82 billion. At the same allowance in budget 2017 shared on social financing 2.98 billion UAH and academic funding level of 2.84 billion.
