The first meeting of the newly elected Parliament of Catalonia held on 17 January. On 29 December, Prime Minister of Spain, Mariano Rajoy, said La Vanguardia.

He urged parliamentarians not to repeat the mistakes of predecessors who «attacked the Constitution.»

1 October in a referendum organized by the government of Catalonia, the region of Spain supported 90,18% of participants of plebiscite. Voter turnout was 43%. In clashes with security forces who blocked part of polling stations were affected 893 people.

On 27 October, the Catalan Parliament adopted a resolution which declares independence from Spain.

28 Oct Madrid deprived Catalonia autonomy and took responsibility for the management of the region.

Rajoy dismissed the Catalan Parliament and set new elections. He also terminated the powers of the government of Catalonia and the head of Carles Pokdemon.

November 2, Spain’s national court decided to detain the members of the deposed government of Catalonia. They were accused of attempting a coup d’etat.

Pujdeme went to Brussels and said he would stay there until, until it receives guarantees «a fair trial».

December 21 was held early elections to the Parliament of Catalonia. The turnout was 81,94%. Three advocating for the region’s independence party («Republican Left of Catalonia», «Catalonia Together» and «the Candidacy of national unity») received 70 seats out of 135.
